Drone Factory Question

So I’ve moved over to NZBDrone from SB, and I must say, Bravo to the devs.

I have a question regarding the drone factory folder. Unlike SB, NZBD is always scanning the tv download folder for new episodes. My question/concern is doesn’t this prevent the hard disk from spinning down? Is there any concern that running the hard disk 24/7/365 will cause an increase in wear and tear on the drive, and ultimately shorten the life?

Maybe I’m just used to an old way of thinking, but wanted to get your thoughts.

I haven’t personally seen any issues with this approach and I’ve been running it for the last couple of years (through v1 and now v2). I don’t have any data to backup that this is or isn’t a concern, just my experience. I’ve had a couple drives wear out over the years, but no complete failures.

Maybe a dumb question, but is there any way to change the scanner to on-demand, or to have it be called by a script? This way I could let my hard drives spin down during the day (at this point mostly just to save power), since I’m only ever really downloading items at night.

That would indeed be an awesome feature/
One workaround I have so far, (and it also helps speed things up a bit, unraring wise), is to let sabnzbd download to a HDD, and unpack to the sytemdrive (mine’s ssd), so nzbdrone checks there.

Gives you the benefit of reading the rar on hdd, and writing to SSD, so that’s a bit faster, and since the SSD can’t spin down, there’s no negative effect of nzbdrone looking at it every few seconds.

Please vote for it so we can weigh its importance.
