Added series “BBC Documentaries” to Sonarr. Episode titles look like e.g.: “BBC Documentaries - 10/16/2015 - Music For Misfits: The Story Of Indie - Into The Mainstream”.
If I want to manually download an epi and rename it for the factory to import I cannot use this title because dashes are not valid in filenames. Shouldn’t these be translated to remove the slashes and make them usable?
I notice many posts for this series are actually in the format like: “BBC Documentaries - 2015x255”
Sorry, forward slashes, not dashes. Used in the date portion of the title.
I think Sonarr renames this series’ files to format: 2015x255. Currently few of the epis are grabbing (due to no epi numbering in title) so I end up just manually downloading, but cannot rename to the title it wants (for importing) due to the slashes and not sure what the YxE is because this series’ epis are listed in Sonarr as M/D/Y.
I’d like to see the format used in the epi titles match what files are renamed to, or at least something I can use as a rename string for the factory import.
You’re mixing grabbing and renaming, which don’t really have anything to do with each other. If its not grabbing its because Sonarr can’t determine the series + episode from the release name, probably because they are poorly named, date in another format, wrongly named, etc.
The date in the release name isn’t the episode title.
2015 is the season, 255 is the episode in the season, if you want to use the date instead you need to change the series type to Daily and set the renaming pattern accordingly.
I understand that Sonarr can’t grab these episodes and why, that’s why I’m just downloading them manually. My problem is when I go to rename the manually downloaded file to something Sonarr will recognize properly through the factory import method. Maybe if I could know the following:
How does Sonarr come up with the episode titles that display in the UI when you view a series? e.g.: “BBC Documentaries - 11/14/2015 - David Gilmour: Wider Horizons”. Are they pulled directly from Trakt, IMDb…?
How does Sonarr come up with the episode designations that are displayed in the Wanted list? e.g. for the episode above: “2015x270”.
Why don’t the episode formats match?
I ask because I often search for and then copy/paste the title string from the series episode (#1) to rename manually downloaded episodes, for factory import. This usually works fine but doesn’t work for series like the above because of the slashes in the date format. (The episodes I’m renaming aren’t necessarily in the Wanted list where the Y/E format would be available to see).
If possible, I would prefer Sonarr use the YxE format in the episode titles for these type of series, instead of M/D/Y, if that’s something Sonarr has control over.
Sonarr gets its episode data from TheTVDB, what you’re seeing there (when you look at the episode details) is a combination of different data:
BBC Documentaries is the series title. 11/14/2015 is the air date (because the series is set to daily). David Gilmour: Wider Horizons is the episode title.
Thats the season and episode, 2015 is the season, 270 is the episode.
One shows the date, the other the actual episode.
Use dashes in the filename instead of slashes, thats the default that Sonarr would use when renaming. If you want to use the season and episode numbers instead you can, Sonarr will process it properly, you can get the season and episode numbers from the episode list on the series details page.
You can set the naming format for daily series to use another format, but that will apply to all “daily” air by date series.
